Internship

Students of the Software Engineering Department are required to complete a total of 30 work days of internship by the end of their 6th semester.

To be eligible for an internship, students must enroll in the SE499 Industrial Training course during the semester they plan to intern.

Students planning to intern in the summer, while still in the coursework phase, must enroll the course in the preceding spring semester. Those who have completed the coursework and plan to intern in the winter semester must register for SE499 Industrial Training during the fall semester.

All information regarding the internship process is communicated through the Blackboard platform under the SE499 Industrial Training course.

A. Guidelines
The principles and application of the internship are defined by the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences Internship Regulation and the Software Engineering Department Internship Regulation. Both regulations must be read before initiating the internship process.

Brief information and necessary forms for initiating your internship process are provided below.

B. Internship Application Dates
To be eligible for an internship, students must enroll in the SE499 Industrial Training course during the semester they plan to intern.

Students planning to intern in the summer should submit their internship application documents to the Department Internship Office between May 15 and June 15 of the relevant year. Applications submitted outside these dates will not be processed. If your internship start date is close to the application dates, please ensure that your application date is at least 1 week before the internship start date due to insurance procedures.

Students who have completed the coursework and will intern in the fall or winter semester should submit their internship application documents to the Department Internship Office between October 15 and November 15 of the relevant year. Applications submitted outside these dates will not be processed. If your internship start date is close to the application dates, please ensure that your application date is at least 1 week before the internship start date due to insurance procedures.

C. Internship Application Procedures

Internship application procedures are conducted following the steps outlined below:

1- Identify the companies you will apply to for internship.

2- Fill the Compulsory Internship Application Form with the company official specifying a duration of 30 working days. (Public holidays are not counted as internship days.)

3- If requested by the company, complete the Internship Application Cover Letter.

4- Request an appointment via email from the Department Internship Coordinator for application procedures.

5- Have the Compulsory Internship Application Form approved by the Department Internship Coordinator and, if necessary, the Internship Application Cover Letter. (Compulsory Intenship Application Form should be the original signed&stamped form, not a printed or digital version)

6- The approved Compulsory Internship Application Form is scanned in PDF format and uploaded to the system via the Application E-Form.

7- Begin the internship.

No action is taken without obtaining an appointment from the Department Internship Coordinator. The subject of appointment emails should be "Regarding Internship Application," and subsequent communications, if necessary, should be conducted through the same email thread. Please refrain from sending new emails constantly.

All communication regarding the internship process is conducted through the email address [email protected]. Replies will not be provided to emails sent to other addresses.

Internship Application Forms not uploaded via the Application E-Form will not be processed.

Documents submitted to anyone other than the Department Internship Coordinator will not be processed.

If the company where you will intern requests an Employee Entry Declaration, you could request it from the Directorate of Administrative and Financial Affairs after completing the internship application process.

D. Internship Report

At the end of the internship period, the company where you interned will fiil out the Internship Evaluation Form and you will write an Internship Report detailing the work done during the internship.

The Internship Evaluation Form is filled out by the internship supervisor at the company where you intern and is delivered to you in a sealed envelope.

The internship report is prepared in English in accordance with the Software Engineering Internship Report Format in digital format. The file format of the internship report must be PDF. Other file formats will not be accepted. The file you need to use is provided below.

Print out the cover page of your internship report and have it signed and stamped by your internship supervisor at the company where you intern. And rescan it to your report file.

In its final submission state, the file format of the internship report must be PDF, and the file name must be " studentname_surname_internshipreport ".

E. Internship Report Submission Procedures

Internship submission procedures are carried out following the steps outlined below:

1- Prepare your internship report.

2- Print out the cover page of your internship report and have it signed and stamped by your internship supervisor at the company. (The cover with the signature and stamp should be scanned again and added to the report.)

3- The Internship Evaluation Form is filled out by the internship supervisor at the company and delivered to you in a sealed envelope.

4- Request an appointment via email from the Department Internship Coordinator for document submission procedures.

5- Submit the Internship Evaluation Form in a sealed envelope and the signed and stamped Internship Report Cover page from your internship supervisor at the company.

6- The final version of your internship report in PDF format is uploaded to the system via the Internship Report Submission E-Form. (The cover of the PDF-format report to be uploaded must be signed and stamped by the company. See Item-2.)

7- Whether your internship status is accepted or not is tracked in the Internship Results section on this page.

F. Internship Report Submission Deadlines

Internship Reports and Internship Evaluation Forms must be submitted within 30 days after the end date of your internship. Otherwise, the internship will be considered invalid.

If the end date of the internship coincides with the start of the semester, this period is reduced to 15 days. Otherwise, the internship will be considered invalid.
